Okay, folks, let’s dive into my little project of laying down some keel basketball beech portable wooden flooring. I’ve always wanted a decent practice space, and this seemed like a fun DIY challenge.
First, I gotta say, the planning stage took longer than I thought. I measured the area, like, ten times, because messing up those measurements would be a disaster. I’m no pro, seriously. It’s just a simple practice space. I wanted something that felt good underfoot and could handle some serious dribbling action.
Getting Started
After Measuring, I ordered the materials. I went with beech because I heard it’s tough and looks pretty good. I ordered all materials including the wood, the keel, some cushioning, and the screws.
The Keel Deal
Then there’s the keel. That took some thinking. It’s basically the framework underneath that gives the floor its bounce and stability. I opted for a simple design, and make sure it’s level is important.
The Cushy Part
- Lay it. Before I did any of the wood, I rolled out this underlayment – it’s like a foam layer. It helps with sound and gives the floor a bit more give, you know?
Laying the Wood
Then came the wood! Laying those beech planks was… satisfying. I started from one side, working my way across. They just clicked right in there. I had to cut some pieces to fit around the edges, making sure I left a little gap for expansion.
Screwing Around (Literally)
Now, I didn’t glue this down. It’s “portable,” remember? I used screws at certain points, just enough to keep things secure but still allow me to take it apart if I ever need to move it. A cordless drill and lots of screws.
The Finishing Touches
Once all the planks were down, it was all about the little details. I checked for any loose screws, filled in any gaps, and then it was done! It felt amazing to bounce a basketball on it for the first time. Total game changer!
It’s not perfect, mind you. There are a few spots where the alignment isn’t chef’s kiss, but for a DIY job, I’m pretty darn proud. I can finally practice my crossovers without worrying about messing up the floor. Mission accomplished!
