Okay, so today was a bit of a project day. I decided to finally tackle that stack of wood I had lying around and turn it into a proper volleyball court setup. You know, with the cushions and all, for those, uh, enthusiastic dives.

Getting Started

First, I had to clear out the space. This involved a lot of moving stuff around and trying to convince my dog that the measuring tape wasn’t a chew toy.

Prepping the Pine

Then, I got down to the wood. It was a bunch of pine planks, nice and solid, but pretty rough.

  • Sanding, sanding, sanding. My arms are going to be sore tomorrow, no doubt. I wanted a smooth surface, not a splinter factory.
  • Cut to SizeAfter sanding, I started marking and cutting all the wood into the right sizes.

The Cushions Conundrum

The cushions… yeah, that was a bit of a head-scratcher. I ended up finding some old foam padding that I thought will do the work.

  • First try was a fail with sewing, it’s not my best skill.
  • Stapling, yes! with some old fabric, it worked like a charm.

Assembly Time

With everything prepped, it was time to put it all together. I laid down the pine planks, making sure they were nice and level (mostly). Then, I started attaching the cushions to the edges. A lot of it was just eyeballing it and hoping for the best.

Final Touches (and a Test Run!)

Finally, I added a few extra supports underneath, just to be safe. And then… the moment of truth! I took a few practice dives (carefully!). It’s not exactly professional-grade, but hey, it’s a huge improvement! And my knees are definitely thanking me.

All in all, a pretty productive day. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go ice my everything.
