Wood is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs and releases moisture based on environmental conditions. Indoor humidity levels between 35–55% are ideal for sports floors; higher levels can cause swelling, cupping, or warping, while lower levels lead to cracking or splitting.

Venues in humid climates may use dehumidifiers, while arid regions rely on humidifiers to maintain balance. During installation, acclimation periods allow the wood to adjust to the venue’s climate, reducing post-installation movement. Seasonal checks for gaps or buckling help identify humidity-related issues early. Proper ventilation beneath the floor and around the perimeter also aids in moisture control, ensuring long-term stability.
