Okay, so I’ve been wanting to set up a little dance space in my spare room for ages. I’m no pro, just like to move around, but the carpet in there? Not ideal. I looked into getting a proper sprung floor installed, but whoa, expensive! Then I stumbled upon this “batten dancing birch portable wooden flooring” thing and thought, “Hmm, could this be the answer?”

The Hunt Begins

First, I spent like a whole afternoon just researching. I watched videos of people putting these things together, read reviews (some good, some…not so good), and basically tried to figure out if this was something I could actually handle myself. Seemed doable enough, just a bit of a puzzle, really.

Getting My Hands Dirty

So, I ordered a set. It arrived in a few big boxes, and honestly, I was a little intimidated. I unpacked everything, laid it all out on the floor, and just stared at it for a while. There were these wooden panels, and then these… battens? Like strips of wood that go underneath. The idea is they give the floor a bit of bounce.

Putting It Together

The instructions were, uh, not the clearest. Thank goodness for those YouTube videos! I basically followed along with one, step-by-step.

  • First, I laid down the battens, making sure they were spaced out evenly. This part was actually kind of fun, like building with giant LEGOs.
  • Then, I started placing the wooden panels on top, clicking them together. This was the tricky part. Some of them went in super easy, others… not so much. I definitely had to use a rubber mallet (and a bit of muscle!) to get them all snug.
  • There were a few moments where I thought I’d messed up completely, but I just took a deep breath, re-watched a section of the video, and figured it out.

The Finished Product (and a Little Dance Test!)

After a few hours (and a couple of breaks), it was done! It actually looked pretty good, a nice little square of wooden floor in the middle of the room. And the best part? It actually felt pretty good to dance on! Definitely better than the carpet. It’s not quite as bouncy as a professional studio floor, but for my little home setup, it’s perfect. I cranked up some music and did a little happy dance – success!

It is a good choice for my home and me.
