Okay, so picture this: I had this crazy idea to build a… well, I wasn’t even sure what it was at first. It involved a rubber volleyball, some birch wood, and the concept of assembly wooden flooring. Yeah, I know, sounds like a recipe for disaster, or at least a very confusing afternoon. But I was bored, and I had all this stuff lying around, so I figured, why not?

The Great Experiment Begins

First, I grabbed that old, slightly deflated volleyball. It had been sitting in the garage for ages, gathering dust and spiderwebs. I pumped it up, just enough so it was firm, but not rock-hard. I didn’t want it exploding on me later.

Then came the birch. I had some leftover pieces from a previous project – you know, those random bits you keep “just in case”? I laid them out on the floor, trying to figure out how they could possibly relate to a volleyball. It looked like a mismatched puzzle, a very strange one at that.

Trial and Error (Lots of Error)

My initial thought was to somehow use the volleyball as a… cushion? A base? I don’t even know. I tried to balance the birch pieces on top of the ball, which, predictably, was a complete failure. They just kept sliding off. Round things and flat things, not a great combo, apparently.

Next, I attempted to partially deflate the volleyball and kinda “mold” it around some of the smaller birch pieces. This… didn’t work either. The ball just looked sad and lumpy, and the wood pieces were still doing their own thing.

The “Aha!” Moment (Sort Of)

I had my son sit with me.

He suggested that we could cut the ball into pieces and try to make it flat.

So, after several more failed attempts, and a growing pile of discarded ideas, I decided to change tack. I grabbed some scissors and cut the ball in half. I got two semi-spheres.

  • I used strong glue.
  • I glued the birch wood pieces on the rubber semi-spheres.
  • I managed to make some kind of strange home decoration.

The (Not-So-Grand) Finale

It’s… something. It’s definitely not assembly wooden flooring, and it’s probably not going to win any design awards. It is just a simple home decoration, but it does kind of resemble a weird, abstract sculpture. And hey, I used up some scrap materials, had a bit of a laugh, and learned that sometimes, the most random ideas can lead to… well, something. Maybe not something useful, but something!

And that’s the story of my rubber volleyball, birch wood, and assembly wooden flooring adventure. Or, more accurately, misadventure. But hey, it was a good time, right?
