Okay, so I’ve been wanting to upgrade my home gym for a while now. I finally decided to tackle the flooring. I wanted something that looked good, felt good, and could handle some, uh, enthusiastic workouts. I ended up going with this cushions volleyball plywood assembled wooden flooring thing, and let me tell you, it was a journey.
The Prep Work
First, I cleared out the entire room. This was a workout in itself! Moved all the weights, the bench, everything. Then came the fun part – cleaning the old concrete floor. I scrubbed and scrubbed, trying to get all the dust and grime off. It wasn’t pretty, but it had to be done.
Laying Down the Cushions
Next up were the cushions. These things are basically like giant puzzle pieces, made of some kind of rubbery material. I laid them out across the floor, making sure they fit snugly together. It took some finagling, and a bit of trimming with a utility knife in a few spots, but I got them all down.
The Plywood Layer
Now for the plywood. I got these big sheets of plywood from the hardware store. I had to carry those suckers in, which was another workout! I placed the plywood sheets on top of the cushions, staggering the seams like they tell you to. This part was actually kind of satisfying, seeing the floor start to take shape.
Putting It All Together
Then came the assembly. The wooden flooring pieces were tongue and groove, so they clicked together. Sounds easy, right? Well, it took some patience, and a rubber mallet came in real handy. I started in one corner and slowly worked my way across the room, making sure everything was tight and lined up. My knees were definitely feeling it by the end of this!
The Finished Product
Finally, I stood back and admired my handiwork. It looked… pretty darn good! The wood finish is nice, and the floor feels solid but with a nice bit of give thanks to the cushions. I moved all my equipment back in, and it felt like a whole new gym.
Would I do it again? Maybe. It was definitely a lot of work, but the result is worth it. If you’re thinking of doing something similar, just be prepared for some sweat and maybe a few sore muscles. But hey, that’s what the gym is for, right?
