Okay, so I’ve been wanting to redo the flooring in my living room for, like, forever. I finally decided to go for it and picked out this gorgeous batten dancing oak wooden flooring. Let me tell you, the whole process was a bit of a rollercoaster, but I’m so happy with how it turned out!

Getting Started

First things first, I cleared out the entire living room. That meant moving all the furniture, rolling up the old rug (which had seen way better days), and basically creating a blank canvas. It was a workout, I’m not gonna lie.

Prepping the Subfloor

Next up was prepping the subfloor. This part was probably the least fun. My old floor was pretty uneven, so I had to spend a good chunk of time leveling it out. I used a self-leveling compound, which was kinda messy, but it did the trick. I made sure to let it dry completely – patience is key, people!

Laying the Battens

Then came the exciting part – laying down the battens! These are basically the strips of wood that create the framework for the flooring. I used construction adhesive and screws to secure them to the subfloor. Making sure they were perfectly spaced and level was crucial, so I took my time with this step, checking and re-checking everything.

  • Measured and cut battens.
  • Applied adhesive to the subfloor.
  • Positioned battens carefully.
  • Screwed everything in.

Installing the Oak Flooring

With the battens in place, I could finally start installing the actual oak flooring! This was the most satisfying part. I started in one corner of the room and worked my way across, fitting the planks together. It was like a giant puzzle, and slowly but surely, the room started to transform.

I did have some tricky cuts, because the layout of my living room has lots of small corners,so it took longer than I * I kept installing.

The Finishing Touches

Once all the flooring was down, I added some finishing touches. I installed baseboards around the edges of the room to cover the gaps, and I gave the whole floor a good cleaning. It was looking amazing.

Seriously, I’m obsessed with my new floor! It was a lot of work, but seeing the finished product makes it all worthwhile. If you’re thinking about tackling a DIY flooring project, I say go for it! Just be prepared for some hard work and a whole lot of satisfaction.
