Okay, here’s my blog post about assembling that volleyball court flooring:
Man, what a project! I finally got around to putting together that birch volleyball court flooring with the cushion backing. I’d been putting it off, but the weather was perfect, so it was time to get it done.
Getting Started
First things first, I had to clear out the area. This meant moving all the patio furniture, the grill, and a bunch of potted plants. It was a workout before the actual workout!
Next, I unrolled the flooring. It came in these big, heavy rolls, and let me tell you, they were a pain to maneuver. I definitely recommend having a buddy help with this part. I, sadly, did not have a helper on hand.
The Assembly Process
Once it was unrolled, I started laying out the pieces. The flooring has this interlocking system, kind of like giant puzzle pieces. Honestly, it was pretty satisfying to click them together.
- Line up the edges. This is crucial, or you’ll end up with gaps and a wonky-looking court.
- Push down firmly. You’ll hear a satisfying “click” when the pieces are properly connected.
- Repeat, repeat, repeat. It’s a bit tedious, but you gotta do it.
The cushions were already attached, so that saved a lot of time, which was a lifesaver. I can’t imagine having to glue those on separately.
Troubleshooting
Of course, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. I ran into a couple of snags:
- A few of the pieces were a little warped. I had to fiddle with them a bit to get them to fit. A rubber mallet helped with the stubborn ones.
- I miscalculated the area slightly, so I ended up a few pieces short. Had to order some extra, which was annoying, but my own fault.
The Finished Product
But finally, after a few hours of sweat and some minor frustration, it was done! The court looked amazing – that beautiful birch wood, all smooth and ready for action. And the cushions felt great underfoot. It was a decent amount of work, but seeing the finished product made it totally worth it. I played a little volleyball after that with the kids next door, and it was great!
I immediately sent some photos to some of my friends who I usually play volleyball with.
