Alright, let’s talk about my little project today. I’ve been meaning to get this done for a while, and today was finally the day. It involved cushions, volleyballs, rubber trees, and assembling some wooden flooring. Sounds like a weird combo, right? Let me explain.

The Grand Plan

I had this idea to create a really comfy, and somewhat unique, seating area in my backyard. And wanted to combine a few things that I am really interested in.

Gathering the Goods

First, I grabbed a bunch of old cushions. Found a few online that were going cheap, and they were perfect for what I had in mind. These were gonna be the base for the seating.

Next up, the volleyballs. Yep, actual volleyballs. I deflated a couple of them. The idea was to use them as a kind of… springy support underneath the cushions. Weird, I know, but trust me on this.

Now, for the rubber tree part. I didn’t actually use a rubber tree. I ordered some natural rubber sheets online. They are fairly thick and sturdy. I wanted to put these under the volleyballs to protect them and give a bit more stability. These would act like the foundation, and will be covered later, so I made sure I found some that were the right shape and size.

Putting It All Together

So, I laid out the rubber sheets first. Then, I carefully placed the deflated volleyballs on top of them. It took a bit of adjusting to get them positioned right – I wanted them to be evenly spaced so the weight would be distributed properly.

After that, I placed the cushions on top of the volleyballs. This was starting to look like something! It was surprisingly comfy already, but I wanted a more finished look.

The cushions were all different colors, and I wanted a floor, so it was time for the final touches.

The Wooden Flooring Finish

This is where the wooden flooring came in. I bought a bunch of those interlocking wooden floor tiles – the kind you can just snap together. They’re super easy to work with. I started laying them down around the cushion setup, kind of like creating a little platform.

It took a little while to fit all the pieces together, and I had to cut a few to make them fit around the edges, but it wasn’t too bad. And honestly, it was pretty satisfying to see it all come together. Once I had it all in one, solid, level floor, I moved my cushion contraption on top of it to give it its finished home.

The Result

And… that was it! A surprisingly comfortable and unique seating area made from cushions, volleyballs, rubber sheets, and wooden flooring. It’s bouncy, it’s comfy, and it’s definitely a conversation starter. My friends thought I was crazy when I told them my plan, but after they sat on it, they were all pretty impressed. Mission accomplished!
