Alright, let’s talk about putting together a volleyball court floor – specifically, one with cushions and maple wood. Sounds fancy, huh? It kinda is, but it’s also a pretty cool project if you’re into DIY stuff and want a top-notch playing surface.

First things first, I cleared out the space. This wasn’t just picking up a few things; I mean I cleared it. Leveled the concrete subfloor underneath. This part is super important because any bumps or dips will show up later and mess with the bounce of the ball.

Next up, the cushions. These aren’t your sofa cushions, obviously. They’re these rubbery pads, that go under the wood. My plan is to arrange these evenly across the whole area, so they are all laid out neatly, make sure there are no gaps, and it just will have the wood sit on top and give the floor some “give”.

  • Made sure the subfloor was clean and level.
  • Checked the cushions to be used.

After I set the cushions, I started laying down the first layer. This can be plywood, or something similar. This isn’t the pretty maple yet, think of it as the foundation that the maple will eventually sit on, so don’t skimp on this part!

With the plywood layer down, it was finally time for the maple. This is where it starts to look like a real volleyball court. I took my sweet time with each piece, making sure they fit together snugly. I will use a mallet to tap them into place, being careful not to damage the edges.

It’s Coming Together!

Slowly but surely, the maple flooring started to cover the whole area. It’s a workout, I will not lie. Lots of bending, lifting, and tapping. But seeing it come together, row by row, was pretty satisfying.

Once all the maple was down, I needed to secure everything. This is, so the floor will stay perfect flat for the players. And it needs to be flat and sturdy!

Finally, I got to the finishing touches. I gave the whole floor a good sanding to make it perfectly smooth, then I plan to apply a few coats of sealant. This is the final step, and it protects the wood and gives it that nice, shiny finish you see on professional courts.

And that’s it! My very own cushioned maple volleyball floor. It took some time, some sweat, but now I’ve got a court that’s ready for some serious action. It’s springy, it looks amazing, and I built it myself. Pretty cool, right?
