Okay, so I’ve been meaning to redo the flooring in my makeshift indoor basketball court (basically, my garage) for ages. It was just plain old concrete before, which, you know, isn’t exactly ideal for bouncing a ball or, let’s be honest, my knees.

First, I spent forever just looking at different options online. It’s kind of overwhelming! There’s, like, a million different types of flooring, all claiming to be the best. I jotted down some notes, comparing prices and what people were saying in reviews.
My Main Options
- Hardwood: This is the classic, of course. Looks amazing, great bounce. But, wow, is it expensive! Plus, I worried about moisture in the garage messing it up.
- Rubber: Seems super durable, good for shock absorption (again, my knees). But I wasn’t sure about the bounce, and some of it looked kind of…industrial.
- Plastic Tiles: These interlocking ones. Seemed like a good middle ground – affordable, easy to install myself, and decent bounce from what I could tell.
- Sport Court: specifically engineered for athletic activities, it provides excellent traction and shock absorption.
After weighing everything, I decided to go with the plastic tiles. Hardwood was just too much of an investment, and the rubber didn’t quite feel right. The tiles seemed like the best balance of everything.
I ordered a bunch of them online – enough to cover the whole garage floor, plus some extra just in case. When they arrived, it was like a giant jigsaw puzzle!
Honestly, the installation was pretty straightforward. I just followed the instructions, snapping the tiles together. It took a few hours, and my back was definitely feeling it by the end, but it wasn’t rocket science. I did run into one snag where I miscalculated a cut, but luckily I had those extra tiles.
Now that it’s all done, I’m really happy with it! The ball bounces way better than it did on the concrete, and it feels a lot easier on my joints. Plus, it looks a heck of a lot nicer than a plain old garage floor. I even painted some lines on it to make it feel more like a real court.
All in all, I’d say it was a successful DIY project. If you’re thinking about doing something similar, I’d definitely recommend doing your research and picking the flooring that makes the most sense for your needs and budget. And don’t forget to order extra tiles! You’ll thank me later.
