Okay, here’s my blog post about installing batten volleyball hard wooden flooring, written in a casual, personal style:

Alright, so I decided to put in this batten volleyball hard wooden flooring in my home gym. I’ve always wanted a good space for some indoor sports, and volleyball’s a blast, so… why not? I figured I’d share how the whole thing went down.

Getting Started

First things first, I gotta find some good wood, some good quality stuff. Check for that before I do anything.

The Messy Part

Next up, the REALLY fun part (note the sarcasm). I cleared out the entire room. This was a WORKOUT in itself. Got all the furniture out, rolled up the old carpet, and was basically left with a big, empty concrete slab. It looked pretty sad, I’m not gonna lie.

I swept and vacuumed that concrete like five times. Any little speck of dust or debris can mess with the flooring later, so I wanted it SPOTLESS. My back was already starting to complain at this point, but hey, no pain, no gain, right?

Laying Down the Battens

I measured my wooden floor and calculate how many battens I needed and use what to cut those battens. I lay down those and put them on the ground and make sure they are all perfect fit.

Installing the Hardwood

Now for the actual WOOD! I started laying down the hardwood planks, snapping them into the battens. This part was surprisingly satisfying. Like giant, expensive LEGOs. Click, click, click… you see the floor starting to take shape, and it’s a good feeling.

I used a rubber mallet to tap each plank into place, making sure they were nice and snug. No gaps allowed! I also used a pull bar for the planks along the walls – that thing was a lifesaver for getting those last pieces in tight.

The Home Stretch

After what felt like forever (it was probably a solid weekend of work), I got all the hardwood down. The room looked COMPLETELY different. Like, night and day. From a dusty concrete box to a… well, a room with a beautiful wooden floor!

I installed the baseboards around the edges to give it a finished look. Caulked the gaps, filled in any nail holes, and generally just tidied everything up. It’s the little details that make a difference, you know?

The Final Result (and the Aftermath)

And… DONE! Seriously, I stood there for a good ten minutes just admiring my handiwork. My body was aching, I was covered in sawdust, but it was WORTH IT. I had my own indoor volleyball court, and I’d built it myself (with the help of some tools, of course).

The first time I bounced a volleyball on that floor… pure joy. It was solid, it had a good sound, and it just felt… RIGHT. Now, all I need is some friends to come over and play!
