Okay, so I wanted to redo my living room floor. I’ve always loved the look of wooden flooring, but it can be such a pain, right? All that solid wood, the nailing, the mess… Then I stumbled upon this “cushions dancing” thing and thought, “Why not give it a shot?”

First, I cleared out the entire room. Furniture, rugs, everything. Gotta have a clean slate, you know? Then, I made sure the subfloor was level. This is super important because any bumps or dips will mess up the whole thing. I used some self-leveling compound to smooth things out. Took a bit of time, but totally worth it.

Next up, the underlayment. Now, this “cushions dancing” part comes in here. I laid down this special underlayment that has these little cushion-like things. I guess that’s where the “dancing” part comes from – it’s supposed to absorb impact and make the floor feel softer underfoot. Seems kinda gimmicky, but hey, I’m all for trying new things.

Laying The Floor

  • Started in one corner, clicking the planks together. It was actually pretty easy!
  • Used a tapping block and a rubber mallet to make sure everything was snug.
  • Made cuts with a jigsaw when need at walls.

The planks themselves were engineered wood, so they were way easier to handle than solid wood. They just clicked together, no glue or nails needed! I worked my way across the room, row by row, making sure to stagger the joints for a more natural look.

The tricky part was around the door frames and the weird angles in my room. I used a jigsaw to cut the planks to fit, and honestly, I messed up a few times. Good thing I bought extra! It took some patience, but I eventually got it all to fit together.

Finally, I installed the baseboards to cover the gap between the flooring and the wall. I chose some simple white ones that matched my trim. A few finishing nails, some caulk to fill in the gaps, and boom! Done!

Honestly, the whole “cushions dancing” thing? I’m not sure if it makes a huge difference, but the floor does feel pretty good underfoot. It’s definitely quieter than my old laminate, and it looks a million times better. Plus, the whole installation process was surprisingly easy. I’m no DIY expert, but I managed to do it all myself in a weekend. If I did it again, would use better knee pads, my knees were killing me!
