So I Got This Wild Idea For My Backyard
Woke up Saturday feeling antsy, you know? Saw those leftover plywood sheets leaning against the garage looking sad. And I’m like, “What if I make something that can shake when we BBQ?”. Grabbed my sketchbook – drew some square panels with slots.

Step 1: Chopping The Wood.
- Screwed up immediately cause I didn’t measure twice
- Cut ten panels at 2ft x 2ft with circular saw – splinters everywhere
- Drilled big holes in corners for later tying-down
Step 2: The Locking Dance.
Here’s where it got messy. Needed connectors that hold but come apart easy.
- Cut vertical slots halfway into edges with jigsaw
- Tried wooden dowels first – snapped when I jumped on it
- Switched to aluminum strips cut from old gutter pieces – worked!
Step 3: Disaster Testing.
Took the whole thing out back near the grill.
- Slapped panels together like puzzle pieces
- Fed the aluminum connectors through slots – “click” sound!
- Jumped like crazy person while neighbors watched
- Center panel flew off when I spun – whoops
Final Tweaks That Actually Worked.
- Added rubber pads cut from bike tires under corners – less slip
- Put quick-release ropes through corner holes – now anchors to ground stakes
- Smoothed edges with sandpaper till my arms hurt
Took six hours total including pizza break. Was covered in sawdust but now when friends come over we can literally dance on plywood. Pull those metal connectors out and everything packs flat against the garage again. Should’ve worn gloves though – got splinters that lasted three days.
