Starting This Flooring Journey
So I got this idea after seeing folks online dancing on fancy floors. Thought why not make my own version that I can stash away when not using? Bought birch plywood planks from the hardware store – not too pricey but felt sturdy enough.
Gathering My Battle Gear
Laid everything out in the garage:
- Plywood sheets
- Measuring tape that keeps retracting too fast
- Circular saw with that scary noise
- Wood glue smelling like chemical nightmares
- Cam lock connectors looking like alien puzzle pieces
Cutting Nightmares Begin
First disaster happened real quick. Marked straight lines but the saw just wouldn’t behave. Ended up with jagged edges on two planks – looked like beaver teeth went at them. Had to sand forever until my arms felt like noodles.
Assembly Dance Party
Started clicking planks together with those cam lock thingies. First row went smooth – feeling proud! Then row two wouldn’t snap right. Realized I glued them upside down like a total noob. Had to pry them apart while glue was half-set – messy doesn’t even cover it.
The Squeak Problem
After finally getting all pieces locked tight, took my victory walk across the floor. Sounded like mouse symphony! Forgot to leave expansion gaps between boards. Undid half the connectors and added tiny rubber spacers – took three tries till the squeaking stopped.
Finished And Floored
Test danced some wobbly salsa moves last night. Held up surprisingly well! Now it breaks down into 20 pieces that slide under my couch. Neighbors saw through garage window during the process – pretty sure they think I’ve gone mad.
