Okay, so I’ve been wanting a dedicated dance space at home for, like, forever. And I finally decided to do something about it. I wanted something portable, not permanent, you know? So I started looking into this “batten dancing rubber tree portable wooden flooring” thing. Sounds fancy, right? It’s basically interlocking wooden tiles that sit on top of rubber supports.
Getting Started
First, I measured my spare room. It’s not huge, but it’s enough. I wanted to make sure I got enough flooring to cover a decent area. Then I spent ages – seriously, ages – online, looking at different options. There are so many! Different wood types, different thicknesses, different rubber thingies underneath.
I finally chose one that seemed like a good balance of price and quality. It wasn’t the cheapest, but it also wasn’t, like, professional ballet studio level expensive. I clicked “buy” and waited. Impatiently.
The Unboxing (and the Smell!)
When the boxes arrived, I was like a kid at Christmas. I ripped them open… and whoa, the smell! It was this strong, kind of rubbery, woody smell. I had to open all the windows. I left the tiles out in the garage for a few days to air out. Pro tip: definitely do that.
Putting It Together
After the smell faded (mostly), I started putting the floor together. It was actually pretty easy. The tiles clicked together, kind of like giant puzzle pieces. The rubber battens underneath provided some cushioning, which is good for my knees (they’re not what they used to be!).
- Laid out the rubber batten strips first.
- Started with a corner tile and worked my way out.
- Clicked each tile into place, making sure they were snug.
It took a few hours, but I managed to do it all myself. No fancy tools needed, just a bit of elbow grease. I stepped back and… well, it looked pretty good! A bit uneven in a couple of spots, but hey, I’m no professional floor installer.
The Dance Test
And then came the moment of truth: the dance test! I put on some music, and… yeah! It felt great. Solid, but with enough give to be comfortable. Way better than dancing on the carpet, that’s for sure. It feels good.
So my portable dance floor will work well for me, and it looks great!
