Okay, here’s my blog post about setting up that portable basketball court:

Alright, so I’ve been wanting a decent basketball practice space at home, but I didn’t want to commit to anything permanent. I saw these portable wooden court setups and thought, “Why not give it a shot?” This “batten Basketball hard portable wooden flooring” thing seemed like a good project.

Getting Started

First, I cleared out a good chunk of space in my backyard. I figured I needed enough room to move around and, you know, not trip over stuff while dribbling. I grabbed a tape measure and marked out a rectangle that was roughly half-court sized. Good enough for some practice.

Unpacking and Laying It Down

The flooring arrived in these big boxes. My back definitely felt this part.
Unpacked it. The panels themselves were pretty heavy, solid wood, which is what I wanted. Real court feel, you know?

I started laying them down, following the lines I’d marked. It felt like a giant jigsaw puzzle.

It was a pretty straightforward process to connect each piece.

The “Batten” Part

Now, about those “battens.” From what I could tell, these are just the strips of wood underneath that give the floor some support and bounce. When you assemble the pieces, these strips come together, so It’s really easy to arrange these panels.

Putting It All Together

I kept going, panel by panel, until the whole area was covered. It took some time and some muscle, not gonna lie. I had to make sure everything was lined up right so there weren’t any weird gaps or uneven spots.

The Finished Product(sort of!)

Finally, I had a complete wooden court surface! It looked pretty good, felt solid under my feet, and the ball bounced nicely. It definitely felt better than playing on the grass or the concrete driveway.

  • I tested it.
  • I shot it.
  • I dribbled it.

It’s not a professional NBA court, obviously, but for some home practice, it’s awesome. I can move it if I need to, which is a big plus. Plus, my kids are already loving it!

All in all, a pretty successful project. My back might be a little sore, but it was worth it. Now, time to work on my jump shot!
