Okay, here’s my blog post about setting up that portable wooden volleyball court floor:

So, I’ve been wanting to get a decent playing surface for volleyball, something better than just grass or concrete. And since I like to move things around, a portable option was the way to go. I went with one of those keel volleyball pine portable wooden flooring setups. Here’s how the whole thing went down.

The Prep Work

First, I cleared out the area where I wanted to set up the court. This was just my backyard, so I moved some patio furniture and the kids’ toys. I wanted a flat, level surface, so I grabbed a shovel and took care of some small bumps and dips in the grass. Nothing major, just making sure things were relatively even.

Laying Down the Keel

The “keel” is basically the support structure underneath the wooden floor. The one I got came in sections, kinda like long planks. I started by laying out the perimeter pieces, figuring out the overall size of the court. Then I connected them together – usually, they just slot into each other, or you use some simple connectors. I made sure everything was square and lined up using a measuring tape, checking the diagonals to make sure they were equal.

Putting Down the Floor Panels

Once the keel was all set, it was time for the actual floor panels. These were pine, and they also came in sections that interlocked. I started at one corner and just worked my way across, clicking the panels into the keel and each other. It was kinda like putting together a giant jigsaw puzzle, but way easier. My little helper son try to join me. It’s very interesting.

  • Start at a corner: This makes it easier to keep things aligned.
  • Click them tight: Make sure the panels are fully connected.
  • Check as you go: Keep an eye on the overall alignment to avoid problems later.

The Finishing Touches

After all the panels were down, the court was pretty much ready! I walked around on it to make sure everything felt solid and there were no loose spots. And everything is perfect, no loose spots at all. Then, I set up the net – that’s a whole other story – and we were ready to play! I’m so happy about it!

Honestly, the whole thing was easier than I expected. It took a few hours, and having a friend or family member help out definitely speeds things up. Now I’ve got a sweet volleyball court that I can put up and take down whenever I want. It’s way better than playing on rough ground, and it looks pretty cool, too! And, my son is also very excited!
