So today I finally tackled my big project – putting down that soft maple dance floor for my pad dancing workouts. Honestly wasn’t sure how this would turn out but hey, let’s go.

Getting Started Was Chaos

First thing, I dragged all those wooden planks from garage into living room. Man, didn’t realize how heavy maple would be! Started moving furniture and man… the dust bunnies under my sofa? Embarrassing. Swept like crazy then washed the concrete floor. Waited like two freakin’ hours for it to dry.

The Actual Struggle Begins

Unrolled that foam underlay stuff – looked easy but nope. That cheap foam kept rolling back up like a yoga mat. Got mad and threw some heavy books on the corners. Whatever works right?

Now the boards… opened box and wow that maple smell hit me. Nice. Laid first row careful-like along the wall, tongue side facing out. Got cocky thinking “this is smooth!” until I tried clicking second row. Those planks wouldn’t snap together worth a damn. Knocked ’em with rubber mallet til my arm hurt.

  • Pro tip: Wear knee pads. My joints are screaming from crawling everywhere
  • Weirdest problem? Cutting around door frames. My jigsaw went nuts halfway through
  • Spacers kept falling out like clumsy dominoes

Making All The Mistakes

Halfway across the room, I saw it. The pattern went crooked like a drunk caterpillar. Had to disassemble ten whole rows cuz I forgot to stagger the joints properly. Almost cried when planks chipped during redo.

Finally Dancing Time?

Twelve hours later, I’m laying the very last piece. Trimming edges with shaky hands. Threw down the dance pad feeling all proud and stepped on it… then immediate regret. Pad slid right off the wood like butter! Almost ate the floor. Solved it with double-sided carpet tape – looks trashy but works.

Now my shins are bruised, three fingernails cracked, but dang… sliding across fresh maple while doing those pad dance moves? Best thing ever. Worth every damn splinter.
