Okay, let’s get started! Here’s my blog post about installing cushions for volleyball on oak wooden flooring, written from my personal experience:
So, I’ve been wanting to set up a little volleyball practice area in my basement for a while now. I finally got around to it this weekend! The basement has a nice, solid oak wooden floor, but, you know, diving for a volleyball on hard wood isn’t exactly ideal. I needed some cushioning.
First, I measured the area where I wanted the cushioning. I figured a roughly 10×10 foot space would be good enough for some basic drills. Gotta have enough room to move around, right?
Next, I went down to the local home improvement store. I looked at a bunch of different options. There were those interlocking foam tiles, some rubber mats… I even considered some really thick carpet padding. Finally I found the cushions for playing Volleyball, which is desiged to be installed on wooden floor.
I picked up enough cushions to cover my 10×10 area. I also grabbed a utility knife, some heavy-duty double-sided tape, and a measuring tape (even though I already measured, you can never be too careful!).
Installation Time!
Back home, I cleaned the floor really well. Any dust or dirt under the cushions would be a pain later. I used a broom, then a damp mop, and let it dry completely.
I started by laying out the cushions to make sure everything fit. It was like a giant puzzle! I had to trim a few pieces along the edges to fit perfectly against the wall. That’s where the utility knife came in handy. I just scored the back of the cushions and snapped them off. Easy peasy.
Once I was happy with the layout, I flipped the cushions over and started applying the double-sided tape. I put strips along all the edges and a few in the middle, just to be sure. This stuff is surprisingly strong!
- Clean the Floor
- Measure and plan layout
- Tape cushions to floor
- Trim edges to fit
- Enjoy your cushioned floor!
Then, carefully flipped each cushion back into place and pressed down firmly to make sure the tape adhered to the floor. I went over the whole thing a few times, just to be extra sure.
And that’s it! It took me a couple of hours, but now I have a nicely cushioned area for practicing my volleyball moves. It’s not a professional court or anything, but it’s definitely a lot better than diving onto bare wood. My knees are already thanking me!
If anyone can give me more suggestions, just write down in comment below. Thx!
