Okay, here’s my attempt at a blog post, following your instructions and example:
Alright, so I’ve been wanting to set up a little volleyball action in my backyard for a while now. I didn’t want to just slap some net on the grass, though. I wanted something a bit more… refined. Something I could easily put away when I’m done. That’s where this whole portable wooden flooring idea came from.
First thing, I measured out the area where I wanted the court. I mean, kinda. It’s not like I’m going for regulation size or anything, just a decent space for some casual games. Then I started looking at materials.
I ended up going with beech wood. I like the color, seems tough, and it was relatively affordable, compared to some other options. I found some planks online, and the seller cutted it to my roughly size, thank goodness.
Getting to Work
When the wood arrived, it was time to figure out this whole “cushion” thing. I wanted it to be a little more forgiving than just slamming wood on the ground. I found that there is a kind of rubber padding that you can put under the wood. And I bought some simple rubber sheets, the kind you might use in a garage or workshop.
I cut those sheets into strips, just a bit wider than my wood planks. Then, I,uh… attached them to the bottom of each plank. Used some heavy-duty construction adhesive. Make sure it’s waterproof!
- Measure the space.
- Choose your wood. Beech is good!
- Find some cushioning. Rubber sheets!
- Cut the cushioning into strips.
- Glue the strips to the bottom of the planks.
Putting It Together
The hard part, really, was just making sure everything was lined up right. I started laying down the planks, making sure the rubber strips were sitting flat on the ground. I didn’t want any wobbles!
The planks is connected by some of that interlocking metal,It took a while to do the interlocking, It’s like a giant, wooden jigsaw puzzle. But hey, it worked! And it looks pretty darn good, if I do say so myself.
The best part? When I’m done playing, I can just pull it all apart and stack the planks in the garage. No permanent court taking up space. It’s not perfect, probably not professional-grade, but it’s mine, and it’s perfect for a backyard game.
If anyone has any recommendations, just let me know!
