Okay, so the other day I had this idea to make the volleyball training a bit less painful on the arms. You know, those stinging hits on a cold day? Yeah, not fun. So, I thought, “Why not add some cushioning to the wooden practice board?” Here’s how it all went down.

Getting Started

First, I gathered all the stuff I needed. This included:

  • The old, hard timber volleyball board.
  • Some thick foam padding – I found some old cushion foam.
  • Heavy-duty fabric – I used an old tarp.
  • Staples and a staple gun – because, well, you gotta attach stuff.
  • Scissors – to make some rough cuts

The Process

I started by laying the foam out on the floor. Then, I placed the timber board on top of it. I used marker to trace around the board, giving me a rough outline of the size of foam I needed. I did the same process on the tarp.

Next, I cut out the foam and fabric using the lines I had drawn. It didn’t need to be perfect, just roughly the same size as the board. I made sure to cut the fabric a bit larger than the foam, so I could wrap it around the edges.

Then came the fun part – attaching everything. I carefully placed the foam on top of the board, making sure it was centered. After that, I laid the fabric over the foam, pulling it tight and flipping the whole thing over.

Using the staple gun, I started stapling the fabric to the back of the timber. I made sure to pull the fabric taut as I went, so there wouldn’t be any loose bits flapping around. I went all the way around the board, stapling every few inches. I think It’s important to pay attention to the corners to have a good-looking result!

The Result

And that was it! I flipped the board back over, and there it was – a cushioned volleyball practice board. It’s way more comfortable to use now, and those stinging hits are a thing of the past. My forearms are definitely thanking me. It’s not the prettiest thing in the world, but hey, it works!

It was a pretty simple project, really. Took me maybe an hour or two, and most of that time was just fiddling around with the staples. If you’re looking for a way to make your volleyball practice a bit easier on the arms, I’d definitely recommend giving this a try!
