Okay, here’s my attempt at writing a blog post in the style you requested, focusing on the practical process and using simple language:

Alright, so I tackled this LVL Basketball court flooring thing. Let me tell you, it was a bit more than I bargained for, but we got it done!

First thing, I cleared out the whole area. Gotta have space, right? Moved all the junk, swept it clean. Made sure it was totally empty.

Getting Started

Then came the fun part – or not so fun at first. We unloaded these HUGE planks of LVL. They were heavy, man! Took a few of us to carry each one. We stacked them carefully, making sure they wouldn’t warp or anything.

  • Unpack all flooring materials.
  • Check every piece for damage. Some of these were slightly chipped, so, I set those aside.
  • Read the instructions. I am not a fan of this behavior, but I have to!

The Hard Part

Next, I laid down a vapor barrier. It’s like this plastic sheeting that keeps moisture out. Super important, I learned, to prevent the wood from swelling up later. I taped the seams real good to make sure it was sealed.

Now for the actual flooring.I started in one corner, following the instructions, working in a small amount. This stuff has a tongue and groove system. You know, where one piece slides into the other? Well, it’s supposed to be easy, but some of them were a real pain to get together. I had to bang on them with a rubber mallet – gently, of course, didn’t want to break anything.

It was slow going. Measure, cut (with a circular saw – scary!), fit, bang, repeat. Over and over. My back was killing me! I took plenty of breaks, I tell you.

Finishing Up

I do cut the pieces, install, and check again and again.

Once the main part was done, I had to deal with the edges. This was tricky. I used a jigsaw to cut around doorways and stuff. Not my best work, but it’s functional.

Finally, I put down some transition strips where the flooring met other rooms. Makes it look a little nicer, and keeps you from tripping.

All in all, it was a workout! But, looking at the finished floor, it was worth it. It’s solid, looks pretty good (if I do say so myself), and should last a long time. Would I do it again? Maybe… if someone paid me enough!
