Alright, so I wanted to try something new in my living room. I’d been seeing these cool “batten dancing pine” floors and thought, “Why not?” I’m no expert, but I figured I’d give it a shot and document the whole chaotic process.

Getting Started
First, I cleared out the entire room. That was workout number one! Then, I made sure the subfloor was pretty level and clean. Any big bumps or dips? Nope, gotta fix those first, So, out came the leveling compound.
The Battens
Next up, the battens. These are basically just strips of wood that the flooring planks will sit on. I laid them out, making sure they were evenly spaced. It’s, super important that the battens are all level, because a wonky batten means a wonky floor.
- Measure and cut the battens. My saw skills? Let’s just say they’re “developing.”
- Arrange the battens.
- Secure the battens using screws.
Laying the Planks
Now for the actual flooring! I started in one corner, carefully placing the first plank. I am begin at the far corner, to make it more easier to get out of the room. I clicked the planks together – honestly, that was kinda satisfying. Plank by plank, row by row, the floor started to take shape.
The Tricky Bits
- Cutting around door frames,I used a measuring tape to measure.
- Dealing with the last row. Getting those final pieces to fit snugly required some serious finagling and a few, uh, “creative” cuts.
Finishing Up
Once all the planks were down,I nailed down some baseboards to cover up the edges and give it a cleaner * that’s it!
It wasn’t perfect, there were a few “oops” moments, and my back definitely hated me for a few days. But hey, I did it! I installed my own “batten dancing pine” floor. I am very proud of myself. Would I do it again? Maybe. But I’d probably stretch first.
