Getting Started
So, I finally decided to ditch my cracked driveway concrete and get one of those portable basketball floors for my garage gym setup. Honestly, I was kinda nervous about putting it together myself. Ordered the kit online after reading tons of reviews – everyone swore it was easy.

First thing? Cleared out my whole double garage space. Swept like crazy, used the shop vac, got every last bit of grit and dirt up. You cannot leave anything under this thing. Measured the space twice to make sure the tiles I bought would fit. Ate pizza for energy – important step!
Unboxing Madness
Man, the boxes arrived heavy! Dragged them into the garage and ripped them open. Tons of thick plastic squares and a bunch of little connectors in separate bags. No instructions anywhere obvious. Found a crumpled paper stuffed at the bottom of a box – typical. Scanned the QR code shown on it, watched a super basic video on my phone. Okay, seemed straightforward enough: interlock the tiles.
The Process (Sweat Included)
Kicked off my shoes – you must be in socks or barefoot to avoid scuffing. Grabbed the first two tiles. Lined up the edge grooves, gave it a solid whack with my hand. Pop! They snapped together. Cool. Started building outwards from that corner, kneeling on the floor, snapping tile after tile.
- It went fast at first.
- Then hit the wall and needed to cut some tiles. Panicked for a second.
- Grabbed my jigsaw – wrapped masking tape over the cutting line, went slow. Not perfect, but good enough.
By the second row, I was sweating like crazy. Bending, kneeling, snapping. The grooves weren’t always aligned perfectly. Had to really shove some pieces together, sometimes step on them. Used that rubber mallet I dug out from the back of the tool shelf a few times. Heavy work man.
The Home Stretch
Made it to the edges. Cutting around the garage door rails was… interesting. Lots of measuring, cursing under my breath when I messed up a cut, recutting. Finally squeezed the last tile in near the back wall. Stepped back. It was a floor! A solid, slightly springy basketball floor right there in my garage. Jumped on it a couple times – felt great.
Finished Product & Thoughts
Overall, took me like 5 hours, mainly because of all the damn cutting for the edges. My knees were killing me! But honestly? It was pretty easy, just more physical than I thought. Key things: Get the base super clean. Have good knee pads. A decent jigsaw helps. Patience for the edge pieces. Now? It feels fantastic to dribble on. Totally worth the sweat. If I can do it, anyone can.
