Okay, here’s my blog post about setting up that portable wooden volleyball court:

So, I finally got around to putting together that “batten volleyball beech portable wooden flooring” I ordered. Let me tell you, it was a bit of a project, but totally worth it in the end. I’m no carpenter, just a regular guy who likes volleyball, so if I can do it, you probably can too.

Getting Started

First things first, I unpacked everything. There were a LOT of wooden pieces, all nicely finished beech, and a bunch of these metal… things… that I later figured out were the battens. I laid out all the pieces on my lawn, just to get an idea of what I was working with. Honestly, it looked a bit intimidating at first.

The “Figuring It Out” Phase

I’m that kind of guy that skips the instructions first. so I dove right in. I started trying to fit the wooden pieces together. No luck, they are all the same size. After fiddling around for a while, I realized that the battens were the key. These metal pieces have grooves, and the wooden planks slide right into them. It’s kind of like a giant puzzle, where all the pieces look the same, ha.

Putting It All Together

  • Laying the First Batten: I put down the first batten on the flattest part of my yard. I wanted to make sure the court would be as level as possible.
  • Sliding in the Planks: I took one of the wooden planks and slid it into the groove of the batten. Then, I grabbed another plank and did the same. It took a little wiggling, but they fit snugly.
  • Connecting the Rows: Here’s where it gets real. I continued this process, adding battens and planks, row by row. The hardest thing is making sure the rows are all aligned.

The Final Stretch

After a few hours of, let’s face it, some sweat and maybe a few bad words, I had a complete wooden volleyball court! It looked amazing. The beech wood was smooth, I tested the finished product with my friend, and the ball bounced perfectly. And the best part? I can take it apart and move it whenever I want!

My Takeaway

Overall, I’m super happy with how it turned out. It wasn’t the easiest DIY project I’ve ever done, but the feeling of accomplishment after finishing it, and then actually playing on it, was awesome. If you’re thinking about getting one of these portable courts, I say go for it! Just be prepared for a bit of work, and maybe invite a buddy to help, two people work much faster than one.
