Okay, here’s my attempt at writing a blog post in the style you requested, about assembling a batten basketball pine floor:

Alright, so I finally got around to tackling that project I’ve been putting off forever – putting down a new floor in my makeshift home gym. I wanted something that looked decent, could take a beating, and wouldn’t completely break the bank. Ended up going with a batten, basketball-style pine floor. Figured it would give it that old-school gym vibe, you know?

Getting Started

First things first, I had to clear everything out. That was a workout in itself! Then came the prep work, I made extra sure, the subfloor was level which is very important.

Next, I laid out the * are basically just strips of wood that create a framework and provide some bounce. I spaced them out evenly – this is super important for getting that consistent feel across the whole floor.

Laying the Pine

Once the battens were down, I started laying the pine floorboards. I chose pine because, well, it’s relatively cheap and looks pretty good. I am not gonna lie, this part was kinda tedious. Lots of measuring, cutting, and fitting. I had myself a good saw that made the job much easier, if I did not, that will be pain in ass.

  • Measure twice, cut once – I learned that the hard way a few times!
  • Stagger the joints – I did not want all the seams lining up,it looks way better, more “professional” if you stagger them.
  • Leave some space around the edges – Wood expands and contracts with temperature changes, I needed leave a gap for that, so I don’t end up with a buckled floor later.

Finishing Up

After all the boards were down, I have to secure them. I used screws, and my electric screwdriver really came to rescue me.

And that’s pretty much it! It took a good chunk of my weekend, but honestly, it was totally worth it. My “gym” looks way better, and the floor feels great to jump and move around on. I also had my kids help me out during the build, it was fun and memorable. Might not be perfect, but I built it myself, and that’s a pretty good feeling.
