Alright, so I’ve been wanting to try out this “batten dancing oak portable wooden flooring” thing for a while. I saw some pictures online, and it looked pretty cool – a way to have a decent dance floor practically anywhere. So, I finally decided to give it a shot.
First, I got my hands on the flooring itself. It came in these interlocking panels, made of, well, oak. They felt pretty solid, which was a good start. The “batten” part, as far as I could tell, referred to the strips of wood underneath that give it some spring.
The Setup
Laying it out was the first real step. I cleared a space in my garage – figured that was as good a place as any to experiment. The panels were designed to click together, kind of like giant puzzle pieces. It wasn’t super easy, I gotta admit. I had to do some wiggling and pushing to get them to fit snugly, but nothing too crazy.
- Started by connecting the edges.
- Then, I worked my way across, making sure each panel was properly locked in.
- Took a little bit of elbow grease, but hey, that’s part of the fun, right?
Once I had a decent-sized area covered, I gave it a test run. Jumped around a bit, did some basic dance moves (nothing fancy, I’m no pro). The floor felt… surprisingly good! It had that nice, slightly bouncy feel that you want for dancing. Definitely better than just dancing on concrete.
The Verdict
So, after messing around with it for a while, I’d say it’s pretty neat. It’s not going to replace a professional dance studio floor, obviously, but for something you can set up and take down relatively easily, it’s solid. It’s sturdy enough to handle some energetic movement, and it actually does provide that “sprung” feel.
Would I recommend it? Yeah, I think so. If you’re looking for a portable practice space, or even just a way to have a dance floor at an outdoor event or something, this batten dancing oak flooring is a pretty good option. Just be prepared to put in a little work getting those panels to click together!
