Okay, here’s my blog post about the “cushions Volleyball sleeper assembly wooden flooring” project, written from a personal, hands-on perspective, using simple language and basic HTML tags:

Alright, so I had this crazy idea to build a… well, I’m not even sure what to call it. It’s like a multi-purpose platform thing. I wanted something I could crash on, play volleyball on (sort of), and that would also just look cool in my spare room. Plus, I really needed to use up some leftover wood flooring.

First, I gathered up all my junk. I had a bunch of old cushions from a couch I threw out last year. They were still in decent shape, just kinda faded. Then there was the wood flooring. I’d over-ordered it when I did my living room, and it was just sitting in the garage.

The Base

The first big step was figuring out the base. I wanted it to be strong enough to handle people jumping around, so I used some thick wooden sleepers I found at a salvage yard. They were super heavy, which was good, but also a pain to move around.

I screwed the sleepers together to make a big, rectangular frame. I didn’t use any fancy joinery or anything, just butted them up and used a ton of long screws. I made sure to pre-drill the holes, though, because those sleepers were HARD.

Flooring Time!

Next up was attaching the flooring. This part was actually pretty satisfying. I just laid the flooring planks across the sleeper frame, making sure they were nice and snug.

  • I used construction adhesive to glue them down.
  • I also hammered in some small nails, just to be extra sure.

It took a while to get all the planks down, and I had to cut a few to fit at the ends, but it started to look like a real platform!

Cushion Chaos

Now for the cushions. This was the messy part. I just kinda piled them on top of the platform. I wanted it to be super comfy, so I used all the cushions I had. I even cut up some old foam mattress toppers to fill in any gaps.

I didn’t bother sewing anything or making covers. I just wanted a raw, kinda rugged look. The cushions were all different colors and patterns, which I thought looked pretty cool.

Volleyball-ish?

Okay, so about the volleyball part… It’s not exactly a regulation court. But I did string up a makeshift net between two poles I stuck in the ground on either side of the platform. It’s more for just bouncing the ball around and having some fun.

I jumped around on it. I bounced a ball. I even laid down and took a nap. It worked! It’s surprisingly sturdy, and the cushions make it super comfortable.

It’s definitely a weird project, but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s unique, it’s functional (in its own way), and it used up a bunch of materials I already had. Total win!
