Alright, let me tell you about this little project I tackled today. It involved some cushions, dancing (not me, thankfully), Hevea wood, and putting together some wooden flooring. Sounds like a random mix, huh? Let me break it down.

The Starting Point

So, I had this pile of Hevea wooden flooring planks sitting in my garage. Been meaning to install them in the spare room for, oh, about a year now? Procrastination is my middle name. I also had these random cushions lying around, the kind you’d use for outdoor seating.

Getting Down to Business

First things first, I cleared out the spare room. Moved all the junk that had accumulated in there – old boxes, a broken lamp, you name it. Then, I gave the concrete subfloor a good sweep and vacuum. Gotta start with a clean slate, right?

Next up, those cushions. Now, I wasn’t planning on using them on the floor. Instead, I used them as knee pads. My knees aren’t what they used to be, and kneeling on hard concrete for hours? No thanks. So, I strapped those cushions on, and believe me, it made a world of difference.

The “Dancing” Part

This is where the “dancing” comes in. See, laying wooden flooring involves a lot of tapping the planks together to get them to fit snugly. I grabbed my rubber mallet and a tapping block (a scrap piece of wood, really) and started “dancing” around the room. Tap, tap, tap, move the cushion, tap, tap, tap. It’s a bit of a rhythm thing, you know?

  • Line up the first plank.
  • Place the tapping block on the edge.
  • Whack it with the mallet (not too hard!).
  • Repeat until the plank clicks into place.
  • Adjust the cushions and move on.

Hevea Wood – A bit stubborn

Now, Hevea wood, it’s pretty, but it can be a bit… stubborn. Some of the planks were slightly warped, so I had to use a bit more force (and a few choice words) to get them to cooperate. There was a bit of sweat involved, I’m not gonna lie.

I used a bit of strength pulling the planks, and after repeating the actions, I successfully assembled the wooden floor.

The Finish Line

After a few hours of “dancing,” sweating, and the occasional muttered curse, I finally finished! The floor was down, and it looked pretty darn good, if I do say so myself. My knees were grateful for the cushions, and I was pretty pleased with my handiwork. Time for a well-deserved beer!

My suggestion is to use some soft and comfortable cushions.
