Starting the Dancing Board Project

So last weekend I decided to finally build that dance board I’ve been dreaming about. Grabbed some wooden boards from the garage that were collecting dust forever. Measured them roughly with an old tape measure – didn’t even care if they were perfectly straight.

Gathering junk from around the house:

  • Four rusty screws left from last year’s broken shelf
  • Duct tape that looked kinda sticky still
  • Hammer with its head wobbling like crazy
  • Random leftover vinyl sheets from kitchen renovation

Fitting Pieces Together

Slapped those boards on the floor, tried lining them up by eyeballing it. Of course nothing fit right. Had to jam them together real hard with my knee while hammering sideways. The board cracked near the end but whatever, just covered it with extra duct tape.

Drilled holes totally crooked for screws, stripped three of them forcing it. One screw head popped off right in my face! Switched to banging nails instead. Bent five nails before one finally went in halfway.

Flooring Disaster Zone

Thought vinyl would slide on nice and smooth. Laid it over the boards and guess what? Big freaking bubbles everywhere! Tried cutting slits with pocketknife but sliced through the vinyl accidentally. Patched it with mismatched tape scraps.

Put weight on it to flatten bubbles – broke the weakest board underneath with a loud SNAP. Said screw it and piled heavy books for three days. Still slightly wobbly but looks flat enough if you squint.

Final Frankenstein Board

Tried dancing on it last night. One corner lifts up like a seesaw when I step there. The vinyl squeaks like stepped-on mice. But guess what? It holds my weight without collapsing! Might add more duct tape later.

Lessons? Wood hates me. Duct tape fixes anything. Never trust tutorials showing perfect builds. Real projects look janky but work good enough for my basement dance parties.
