Okay, so I’ve been wanting to redo my floors for, like, forever. And I finally decided to go for it! I chose this “batten dancing lvl larch assembled wooden flooring” thing – mostly because it sounded cool, and the sample looked pretty in the store.

First things first, I cleared out the entire room. That was a workout in itself! Furniture, rugs, random junk I forgot I even owned… all of it had to go. I even took off the old baseboards, which was surprisingly satisfying.

Prepping the Subfloor

  • Next, I checked the subfloor. I want to make it super level, so my new floor will be flawless.
  • I used some leveling compound to fill in any dips or low spots. It was kinda like icing a giant, not-so-tasty cake.
  • I let that dry completely – patience is key, they say, but it’s so hard when you’re excited!

Then came the underlayment. I rolled that stuff out, It’s supposed to help with sound and moisture, which is great, but, I don’t know whether that will work.

Laying the Floor

Okay, the main event! I started laying the planks, following the instructions that came with the flooring (thank goodness for those!). It’s a “click-lock” system, so you basically just snap the pieces together. It’s kind of like a giant, wooden jigsaw puzzle.

The first few rows were a bit tricky, making sure everything was straight and square. But once I got the hang of it, it went pretty smoothly. I did have to cut some pieces to fit around the edges and doorways, which was a bit of a pain, but I managed.

Finishing Up

After all the planks were down, I reinstalled the baseboards – this time with a nail gun, which was way more fun than prying them off. I also added some transition strips where the new floor met the flooring in other rooms.

And… that’s it! I stood back and admired my handiwork. It looks so much better than the old, beat-up floor. It was a lot of work, but totally worth it. My “batten dancing lvl larch assembled wooden flooring” is officially installed, and I’m pretty darn proud of myself!
