Alright, so yesterday I decided to tackle that pile of wooden flooring that’s been sitting in my garage for, like, forever. The project? My home office. It’s a smallish room, but I knew it would still be a bit of a workout. First things first, I had to clear the room completely. That meant moving out the desk, the bookshelves, the surprisingly heavy rug – everything.

Then came the fun part (note the sarcasm). I had these cushion things, I guess you call them underlayment, that needed to be laid down first. They were like giant, floppy puzzle pieces, and I spent a good hour just wrestling them into place. I used some tape to keep them from sliding all over the place while I was working. It wasn’t pretty, but it got the job done.

Next up, the actual flooring. I’d watched a bunch of videos online, so I felt somewhat prepared. I started in one corner, carefully clicking the first few planks together. It took a few tries to get the hang of the “click” system, but once I did, it started to go a little faster.

The biggest challenge, by far, was cutting the planks to fit around the door frame and the weird little angled wall in the corner. I’m pretty sure I messed up at least three planks before I got it right. My saw skills are… let’s just say “developing.” Thankfully,I have an old saw. So it not very smoothly to saw those wooden flooring.

  • Cleared the room.
  • Wrestled with the cushion underlayment.
  • Started clicking planks (the learning curve!).
  • Cursed at the door frame (and the angled wall).
  • Finally, I finished that!

Almost Done (But Not Quite)

After a few hours, and a lot of sweating, I had most of the floor down. It was actually starting to look like a real room! I still have to put the baseboards back on, which I’m dreading because, again, saw skills. But for now, I’m calling it a win. The floor is in, it’s (mostly) level, and I didn’t completely destroy the room in the process. I’d say that’s a successful Saturday project!
