Okay, here’s my blog post about putting in some new flooring.

So, the other day I was looking at my game room, and I just wasn’t feeling it anymore. The floor was, well, let’s just say it had seen better days. I decided it was time for a change, something that could handle some serious fun, especially all the volleyball bumping and setting we do. After a bit of searching, I landed on using assembled wooden flooring, the kind with that cushiony feel. Oak seemed like the way to go – strong, looks good, you know?

Getting Started

First things first, I gotta rip up the old stuff. That was, um, an experience. Let’s just say involving some sweat, a few choice words and me.

After the old floor was finally out, making sure the subfloor was level. This part is SUPER important. I used some leveling compound to smooth any uneven spots. It will make the flooring so much better.

Laying the Floor

Then came the exciting part – the actual flooring! I started by laying down that special underlayment. This is a cushiony material that goes between the subfloor and the wood. It’s that makes the floor feel soft and comfy. It’s important for shock absorption.

The wood planks themselves came pre-assembled in sections, which was handy. I used a good amount of it to make sure it won’t fall apart easily. It was like putting together a giant, satisfying puzzle. Starting from one corner of the room, I snapped the sections together, one by one. The click of the interlock is nice.

  • Measure twice, cut once. Yeah, I learned this the hard way. A couple of boards ended up being a hair too short.
  • The right tools. This is important.
  • Patience is key. Seriously, rushing this kind of job just leads to mistakes.

Slowly but surely, the floor started to take shape. It took me the whole weekend, working on and off, but by Sunday evening, the main part of the room was done.

Finish the edges. This is the trim, the finishing. It will give the floor a great look. Measure, cut, and install it.

Finally stepping back and seeing the finished floor was awesome. The oak looks fantastic, and that cushiony feel is just perfect. The room feels so much more inviting and ready for some action. I am happy I finally did it!
