Okay, here’s my blog post about the “cushions Volleyball rubber tree assembly wooden flooring” project:

Alright, guys, so I had this crazy idea the other day. I wanted to redo the flooring in my home gym, but I wanted something… different. Something that could really take a beating, look good, and offer some give for those high-impact volleyball drills I like to do.

So, I started digging around. I knew I wanted wood – love that classic look. I looked at regular hardwood, but it felt too… formal. Then I stumbled across this idea of using rubber tree wood. Apparently, it’s pretty sustainable, since they use the trees after they’re done producing latex. Cool, right?

The Process

First things First,I ordered a bunch of rubber tree planks. I Find a supplier that seemed legit – you know, someone who wasn’t going to send me a box of * made sure it was enough to cover the whole gym floor.

Then, the real fun began. I needed a subfloor. My existing concrete was pretty uneven, so I decided to install a layer of plywood. Leveled everything, screwed it all to the concrete, make sure is super solid.

Next came the key ingredient: the cushions! I found these interlocking rubber tiles, the kind they use in playgrounds. I figured they’d provide some good shock absorption. I laid those down over the plywood, making sure they were all snugly connected. It felt like a giant, squishy puzzle.

Now for the wood. I started laying out the rubber tree planks, figuring out the pattern. I went with a simple staggered look – nothing fancy, just clean lines. I used a nail gun and some heavy-duty adhesive to secure each plank to the rubber tiles. The adhesive was a pain to work with, messy stuff, but it held everything together.

FinishingTouches

After all the planks were down, I gave it a good sanding. Rubber tree wood is pretty soft, so it sanded down real nice and smooth. Got rid of any splinters or rough edges. Then I applied a few coats of polyurethane sealant. I wanted something durable that could handle sweat, dropped weights, and the occasional spilled water bottle.

The final result? Pretty awesome, if I do say so myself. The floor has this great, slightly bouncy feel – perfect for jumping and landing. The rubber tree wood looks fantastic, it’s got this warm, natural tone. And the whole thing feels incredibly solid. It’s like a professional volleyball court, but in my basement!

It was a lot of work, honestly. My back was killing me by the end. But it was totally worth it. Now I’ve got a unique, functional, and pretty darn cool gym floor that I built myself. Boom!
