Okay, here’s my blog post about the “cushions dancing pine timber” project:

So, I had this crazy idea the other day. I was looking at some old cushions I had, and then I looked out the window at the pine trees, and then I remembered I have a stack of timber in the garage from previous projects. Boom! “cushions dancing pine timber” was born in my mind. It sounded cool, and I wanted to make… something.

First, I gathered my materials.

  • Old cushions – the floral ones my grandma gave me, haha.
  • Some scrap pine timber – various sizes, kinda rough.
  • A * a handsaw, nothing special.
  • Screws and a screwdriver, which I am very familiar with.
  • Sandpaper – coarse and fine, to make things smooth.
  • My old work * first, right?

The Messy Process

I started by cutting the timber. My plan was vague… very vague. I just knew I wanted different lengths. I sawed, and sawed, and sawed. My arms got tired, honestly. No fancy measurements, just eyeballing it. Some pieces were short, some were long, some were… well, crooked.

Next, sanding! This took forever. I wanted the wood to be smooth-ish, so no splinters. I used the coarse sandpaper first, then the fine one. It created a lot of dust, so I did this part outside.

Then came the tricky bit: attaching the cushions. My initial idea was to just screw them directly onto the wood. But the cushions were too thick! The screws wouldn’t reach.

So, plan B. I cut some smaller timber pieces to act as “spacers”. I screwed these onto the bigger pieces first, and then screwed the cushions onto the spacers. It worked! Kinda.

The cushions were floppy. They didn’t “dance” like I imagined. They just… slumped. I tried different arrangements, different angles, even yelling at them a little (don’t judge).

The Final(ish) Result

After much frustration and a few accidental hammer-to-thumb moments, I ended up with… something. It’s not exactly what I envisioned. It’s more like “cushions awkwardly leaning on slightly wonky pine timber.” But hey, I made it!

It’s currently sitting in my living room. My friends think it’s weird. My cat likes to sleep on it. I guess that’s a win?

I might revisit this project later. Maybe add some paint? Or lights? Or just burn it and start over? Who knows. For now, it’s a reminder that sometimes, even the weirdest ideas can lead to… something. And that’s okay.
