Okay, here’s my blog post about the “cushions Volleyball soft maple timber” project, written in a casual, personal style:
Alright, so I had this kinda crazy idea the other day. I wanted to make… something. I didn’t even know what at first. But I had these old volleyballs lying around, and a pile of scrap wood – mostly soft maple, I think. And some cushions. Very important, the cushions. My butt needed a rest.
The Brainstorm (and the Mess)
I started by just staring at the stuff. Seriously, for like an hour. My wife thought I’d lost it. I kicked a volleyball, it hit the wood, and bounced off the cushions. Then I began to do a little simple design on the paper, after all these collision.
Then, the cutting began. I’m no carpenter, let me tell you. My saw kept getting stuck. Wood chips everywhere! I measured, like, five times before each cut, and still messed up a couple. Managed to not lose any fingers, though, so that’s a win.
Putting It All Together
Next up: making the volleyballs part of the… thing. I deflated them a bit – they were way too bouncy otherwise. Tried to, uh, “attach” them to the wood. Glue? Nope. Screws? Kinda… but not really. Ended up using some heavy-duty twine, wrapping it around the wood and through some holes I drilled in the volleyballs. It looked…rustic. Let’s go with rustic.
Cushion Time!
The cushions were the easy part. I just kinda… plopped them on top. They were these old, floral-patterned things I got from my grandma. Super comfy, though. Maybe a little too comfy. I almost fell asleep on the thing before I even finished it.
The Final “Product”
- Step 1: Stare at stuff.
- Step 2: Make a mess with wood.
- Step 3: Wrestle with volleyballs.
- Step 4: Add cushions.
- Step 5: Nap (optional, but highly recommended).
So, what did I actually make? Honestly, I’m still not 100% sure. It’s like…a wobbly, cushioned, volleyball…thing. A footrest? A weird chair? A conversation starter? Probably all of the above.
It is a new designed chair by myself. It is not pretty good-looking,but It is my first DIY project.
I think I can do better next time.
The main thing is, I had fun. And I learned that soft maple is actually pretty hard to saw through. And that deflated volleyballs smell weird. But hey, that’s DIY for you. Always an adventure!
