Okay, here’s my blog post about putting in some basketball court flooring. It’s all in simple English, just like you asked:
Alright, so I decided to put down some new flooring in my home gym. I wanted that real basketball court feel, you know? So I went with this “batten basketball rubber tree assembly wooden flooring”. Sounds fancy, but it’s basically just wooden floor panels that fit together.
Getting Started
First thing, I cleared out the whole room. Everything. Weights, mats, the old dusty treadmill… all of it had to go. This gave me a nice, empty space to work with.
Next, I checked the subfloor. In my case, it’s just plain concrete. I made sure it was clean – swept it, vacuumed it, the whole nine yards. Any little bumps or debris could mess up the final result, so I was pretty careful about this part.
Laying Down the Battens
Okay, so the “battens” are these wooden strips that go underneath the floor panels. They create a little bit of space for airflow and help with shock absorption. I laid them out according to the instructions that came with the flooring. It was basically like creating a grid pattern across the floor.
I used a measuring tape and a chalk line to make sure everything was straight and evenly spaced. I am not good at drawing stright lines. This part took a while, not gonna lie. Gotta get those lines perfect!
Then, I used a simple nail to fasten each of battens.
Putting in the Floor Panels
This is where things started to look like a real basketball court! The wooden panels had this tongue-and-groove system, so they clicked together pretty easily. I started in one corner and worked my way across the room, row by row.
- Tip: I used a rubber mallet to gently tap the panels together. This made sure they were nice and snug.
I followed the instructions! Some panels needed to be cut to fit along the edges of the room. I used a saw for this. Measure twice, cut once, as they say!
The Finishing Touches
Once all the panels were in, I installed some trim around the edges of the room. This covered up the gaps and gave it a nice, finished look. I just nailed the trim into place.
Finally, I gave the whole floor a good cleaning. There was a bit of sawdust and stuff from the cutting, so I vacuumed it all up.
I have done it!
And that’s it! My own little basketball court. It took a couple of days of work, but it was totally worth it. Now I can shoot some hoops without leaving the house. Pretty sweet, right?
