Okay, so I’ve been seeing these crazy videos online of people making plywood, like, dance. It looked so wild, I just had to try it myself. It’s called “rubber dancing plywood,” and apparently, it’s a thing. I grabbed some thin plywood sheets from the local hardware store – the cheaper, the better, I figured.
Getting Started
First things first, I needed a good workspace. I cleared out my garage – always a good excuse for a little spring cleaning, even if it’s not spring. I laid down a big tarp because I knew this was going to get messy.
The Soak
- Water Bath:I filled a big plastic tub with water. Just regular tap water, nothing fancy. Some people in youtube added fabric softener, but I skipped that for now.
- Submerge the wood:I put the plywood sheets one by one into the water. Making sure they were completely underwater.
- Waiting Game: I have read online, the longer the plywood soaks, the more flexible it gets. Some people recommended soaking for days, and I soaked mine overnight.
The Dance
So after soaking overnight, I pulled the plywood out the next morning. It felt surprisingly bendy!
I started by gently bending the edges. I found a use for those old paint cans in the corner to shape the plywood.
After 48 hours, it has slowly turn into a shape I designed. I’m going to leave it to fully dry, which, might take a few more days.
The Result (So Far!)
It’s still drying, but wow! The plywood is holding its shape! It’s like some weird, wooden wave sculpture. I can’t wait to see it completely dry and maybe even add some paint or something. This “rubber dancing plywood” thing is definitely a fun project. The full creative process I haven’t really started yet, but the first step is done! And the plywood really dances!
