Okay, here’s my blog post about setting up a portable wooden volleyball court, written in the style of a casual, experienced blogger:
Alright, guys, so I got this crazy idea to set up a volleyball court – but not just any volleyball court. I wanted something I could take with me, you know? Beach trips, park hangs, maybe even tailgate parties. And it had to be wood. Classy, right? I’m using a rubber volleyball for less painful play.

So, first thing, I hit up the local lumber yard. This wasn’t my first rodeo with DIY projects, so I have basic tools.I needed a bunch of 2x4s. I’m talkin’ a good stack. I didn’t get pressure-treated because this thing’s gonna be stored indoors mostly. The lumber yard guy gave me that “you sure about this?” look, but I just smiled and loaded up my truck.
Prepping the wood
Back home, I started cutting. Lots and lots of cutting. I aimed for a smaller court, I made them about 20 feet long and 10 feet wide. That seemed manageable. Then came the sanding. Oh, the sanding! I wanted these boards smooth as a baby’s… well, you know. No splinters allowed on my court!
I created a flat rectangular area after cutting. That’s the key to easy assembly, I think.
The Assembly…
Here’s where it got a little tricky. I decided to build the court in sections. I put the boards together and put a simple frame around the edge, and used wood screws to hold them tight. Screwed these sections together, making sure everything was flush and even.
Important: Don’t go crazy with the screws! You gotta be able to take this thing apart, remember?
I connected the sections, and I use sturdy * made the whole thing fold up like an accordion. Pretty slick, if I do say so myself.
The First Test!
I hauled the whole shebang out to my backyard. It took a bit of effort, but it wasn’t as heavy as I’d feared. Set it up, grabbed my net (a portable one, naturally), and invited some friends over.
It worked! We played for hours. The rubber volleyball bounced nicely on the wood. It felt… solid. And yeah, it looked pretty darn cool, too.
Final
After the game, I folded it all up. It took up way less space than I expected. I can store it flat, it’s not too difficult, It’s heavy for one man, but I manage it.
So, there you have it. My portable, wooden volleyball court. Was it a lot of work? Yep. Was it worth it? Absolutely! Now, who’s up for a game?
