Alright, so I wanted to make a cool dance floor in my backyard. You know, something solid but also kinda portable, so I could move it around if needed. I looked up some ideas and found this “keel dancing solid portable wooden flooring” thing. Sounded promising, so I decided to give it a shot.
Getting Started
First things first, I needed to figure out what kind of wood to use. I didn’t want anything too fancy or expensive, but it had to be strong enough to handle people dancing on it. I went with some pressure-treated pine from the local hardware store. Seemed like a good balance of cost and durability.
Building the Base (The “Keel”)
- I cut some of the wood into long pieces to make the “keel” – basically, the support structure underneath the floor. I figured this would give it some extra stability and keep it from wobbling.
- I made sure to place the pieces evenly.
- Then i screwed it with some solid screws.
Making the Floor Panels
Next up, I needed to make the actual floor panels.
- I cut the rest of the pine into smaller, square-ish pieces.
- I laid them out on top of the keel, making sure they fit together snugly. This part was kinda like putting together a giant puzzle.
- Then connect these pices together.
Putting It All Together
This is where it got a little tricky. I wanted the floor to be portable, so I couldn’t just nail everything together permanently. Instead, I used screws to attach the floor panels to the keel. That way, I could take it apart later if I needed to.
Testing It Out
Finally I built it, and tested it with my friends.
Once everything was assembled, it was time for the fun part – testing it out! I cranked up some music and started dancing around. The floor felt pretty solid, and the keel seemed to be doing its job. There was a little bit of give, which I actually liked, because it made it feel more like a real dance floor.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely good enough for some backyard boogieing. And the best part is, I can take it apart and move it whenever I want. Mission accomplished!
