Alright, so today was all about getting my hands dirty with some batten basketball maple timber. I’ve been planning to revamp the flooring in my little home gym area, and I finally took the plunge.

The Prep Work

First things first, I cleared out the entire space. This meant moving all the weights, the bench, the yoga mats – everything. It was a workout in itself! Once the room was empty, I gave the old floor a good sweep and vacuum. Gotta start with a clean slate, right?

Laying Down the Batten

Next up was the batten. I measured the room’s dimensions and cut the timber * using a leveler to check if the surface is even, and it’s not! So the next move is to use shims to adjust it,make it more sturdy. The key here is to make sure they’re spaced evenly to support the maple planks I’d be laying on top. I used a nail gun to secure the batten to the subfloor – man, that thing is a lifesaver! Made the job so much faster.

Time for the Maple

With the batten framework in place, it was time to lay down the beautiful maple timber. I had chosen a gorgeous, light-colored maple that I knew would brighten up the space.

Because the surface is uneven, I used serveral support point and some glue to make planks firmly.

I started at one end of the room, carefully placing each plank and making sure it was snug against the previous * I bought not too much planks, So I have to measure the space and try to use every single plank * securing the planks, I opted for a combination of adhesive and nails. It might be overkill, but I wanted this floor to be rock * one want to fix his floor again next month!

The Finishing Touches

Once all the planks were down, I filled any nail holes with wood putty. After that dried, I gave the whole floor a light sanding to make sure everything was smooth and * finally achieved my own home gym area.

It was a long day, and my back is definitely feeling it, but seeing the finished product makes it all worthwhile. My home gym now has a fantastic, professional-looking floor that’s perfect for my workouts. Time to break it in!
