Okay, so I had this idea to make some outdoor cushions. I wanted something that could handle the weather, look kinda rustic, and be super comfy. I figured, why not combine volleyballs (for the cushion part) with some nice pine timber for a base? Sounds crazy, I know, but stick with me.

Getting Started

First, I gathered my materials. I found some old volleyballs – the ones that are kinda deflated and nobody uses anymore are perfect. Then, I headed to the local hardware store and picked up some pine timber. I chose pine because it’s pretty cheap and easy to work with, plus it smells nice when you cut it!

The Timber Base

  • I started by measuring and cutting the timber. I wanted a simple square base, just big enough to hold the volleyball cushion.
  • Next, I sanded down the edges. Nobody wants splinters, right? I used some rough sandpaper first, then went over it with finer grit to make it super smooth.
  • After sanding, I assembled the base. I just used some wood glue and screws to hold it all together. Nothing fancy, just a basic box shape.
  • I applyed a coat of protecting oil.

Prepping the Volleyballs

This part was a little tricky.

I cut open.I used strong scissors.

Then, I fit them onto the timber base. I added stuffing to make them look good and comfortable.

Putting It All Together

Finally, I secured the volleyball “cushions” to the timber base. I used some heavy-duty staples, making sure they were hidden underneath so it still looked nice.

And that’s it! My weird, but surprisingly awesome, volleyball and pine timber cushions were done. They’re super comfy, look unique, and I think they’ll hold up pretty well outside. Plus, I got to upcycle some old volleyballs, which is always a bonus. It was a fun little project, and I’m pretty stoked with how they turned out!
