Alright, so I’ve been wanting to redo the flooring in my living room for, like, forever. I finally decided to go for it and picked out this awesome batten dancing maple wooden flooring. Let me tell you, the whole process was a bit of a rollercoaster, but totally worth it in the end.

Prepping the Space
First things first, I cleared out everything. I mean everything. Furniture, rugs, the cat’s scratching post – all gone. Then came the fun part (not really): removing the old, nasty carpet. It was dusty, gross, and took way longer than I expected. Underneath, I found some pretty uneven subflooring.
Checked for any significant dips or bumps, then i grabed some leveling compound. Spread it on the whole floor.
Getting the Materials
Then go to the store and picked up my shiny new maple * took * heavy!
Installation Time!
Okay, the real work began. I laid down the first few rows, making sure to leave a little gap around the edges for expansion (the guy at the store told me that’s important). The batten system, it’s all about these strips of wood that you nail down first, and then the flooring planks click into them.
- Measure: Always measure twice, cut once.
- Placed: Carefully placed down every battens.
- Nail: I nailed those battens down.
- Snap and Lock:I snap and lock the flooring planks.
The Finishing Touches
After all the flooring was down, I installed some trim around the edges to cover up those expansion gaps. It was tricky getting the corners to match up perfectly, but I managed. Finally, I gave the whole floor a good cleaning and stood back to admire my handiwork.
Honestly, it was a lot of work, but seeing the finished product makes it all worthwhile. My living room looks completely transformed! I think it is amazing.
