Alright, so today I decided to mess around with this idea I had: “batten dancing rubber tree timber.” Sounds kinda weird, right? But I figured, hey, why not try to combine these things and see what happens.

Getting Started

First, I needed some materials. I grabbed some old timber I had lying around from a previous project – nothing fancy, just some scrap pieces. Then, I found some rubber – actually, it was an old tire tube I cut into strips. The “batten” part was easy; I just used some thin wooden strips I use for, well, battening things down.

The “Dancing” Experiment

  • Step 1: I laid out the timber pieces on the floor.
  • Step 2: I attached the rubber strips to the timber using some heavy-duty staples. The idea was to create a sort of springy, bouncy surface.
  • Step 3: I used the batten strips to secure the rubber even more, making sure it wouldn’t fly off when I… well, danced on it.

The whole “dancing” part was more like clumsy jumping. I put the contraption on the floor and tried to, you know, “dance” on it. The rubber gave it a bit of a bounce, but honestly, it was more wobbly than anything. I definitely wouldn’t call it graceful.

Did It Work?

Well, “work” is a strong word. It didn’t break, which is a plus. And it did have some give to it, thanks to the rubber. But as for creating some kind of amazing dancing platform… not so much. It was more like a weird, slightly bouncy, wooden thing. More like a wobble! My cat gave it a very suspicious look and then walked away.

I guess the “rubber tree” part of the equation was a bit of a stretch. I was thinking of the flexible wood of a rubber tree, but really, I just had some tire scraps.

Final Thoughts

It was a fun little experiment, even if it didn’t exactly turn out how I imagined. I might try tweaking it later, maybe with different materials or a different design. For now, though, I think I’ll stick to regular dancing on a regular floor. This “batten dancing rubber tree timber” thing is probably best left as a one-time goofy project.
