Alright, let’s talk about my recent project: putting up some batten basketball solid timber. I’ve been wanting to create a feature wall in my living room for ages, and I finally took the plunge.
First things first, I gathered my materials. I went with solid timber because, well, I just love the look and feel of real wood. I picked up the timber from a local supplier, and they were pretty helpful in guiding me on the quantity I needed based on my wall measurements.
Getting Started
Before I could even think about attaching the timber, I had to prep the wall. I made sure it was clean and smooth. I had to fill in a few old nail holes and give the whole wall a quick sanding. Trust me, you don’t want to skip this step, or your battens won’t sit flush.
The Measuring and Cutting Phase
Then came the measuring and cutting. This part took some patience. I wanted a specific pattern, so I spent a good chunk of time figuring out the spacing and lengths of each piece. I used a miter saw to cut the timber. And measure twice, cut once, right? Believe me, mistakes are a real pain when you’re working with solid wood.
Installation Process
Next up, attaching the battens. I used construction adhesive and finishing nails. I applied a bead of adhesive to the back of each batten and then used the nails to hold them in place while the adhesive set. Using a level, I made sure each piece was perfectly straight. Nobody wants a wonky feature wall!
- I started from the bottom and worked my way up.
- Also, make sure the spacing is correct.
The Final Touches
Once all the battens were up, I filled the nail holes with wood filler. After that dried, I gave everything a light sanding to get a smooth * I chose a natural clear coat to show off the wood grain, but you could definitely stain or paint yours to match your decor.
Finally,I applied the finish. Because that protects the wood and gives it a nice sheen.
And that’s it! It was a bit of work, but totally worth it. My living room looks completely transformed, and I get a real sense of satisfaction knowing I did it myself.
