Okay, so I’ve been wanting to redo my home gym floor for, like, ever. I finally decided to go for it – batten basketball maple assembly wooden flooring. Sounds fancy, right? It’s basically a solid wood floor, but the process was… interesting. Let me tell you about it.

Getting Started

First, I cleared out the entire room. Everything. Weights, mats, that weird exercise bike I never use – all gone. This gave me a totally blank canvas to work with, and it was surprisingly satisfying to see the empty space.

Prepping the Subfloor

Then came the not-so-fun part: subfloor prep. My old floor was just concrete, and it wasn’t exactly level. I spent a good chunk of time cleaning it, patching up any cracks, and making sure it was as smooth as possible. I used some self-leveling compound for a couple of low spots, and that stuff is messy! But, you know, gotta do what you gotta do.

Laying the Battens

Next up, the battens. These are basically wooden strips that create a framework for the floorboards. I laid them out perpendicular to the direction I wanted the final floorboards to go. Spacing them evenly was key, so I used a measuring tape and marked everything out carefully. I secured with Screws.

The Maple Flooring Arrives!

The maple flooring arrived, and it was beautiful! I let it sit in the room for a few days to acclimate to the humidity. Apparently, this helps prevent warping later on. Who knew?

Installing the Floorboards

This was the most time-consuming part, but also the most rewarding. I started laying the floorboards, making sure to stagger the joints for a more natural look. I used a flooring nailer to secure each board to the battens. It was loud, and my arms got a serious workout, but it was pretty satisfying to see the floor taking shape.

The Finishing Touches

Once all the floorboards were down, I sanded the entire floor to make it perfectly smooth. Then came the staining and sealing. I chose a clear sealant to really show off the natural beauty of the maple. Several coats later, and it was gleaming!

The final finish

So it cost some time, but the result is pretty amazing. The flooring is installed and it look so great.
