Okay, so picture this: I had this crazy idea to combine a bunch of seemingly random things – a rubber volleyball, some pine, and wooden flooring. Don’t ask me why, it just popped into my head and I had to try it.

Getting Started

First, I grabbed an old volleyball we had lying around. It was pretty deflated, which actually worked out perfectly. Then, I went to the local hardware store and picked up some pine wood scraps. They were super cheap, just leftover bits and pieces. Finally, I already had some old wooden flooring planks in the garage – we’d ripped them out of the spare room a while back.

The Messy Part

I started by cutting the volleyball in half. This was way harder than I expected! That rubber is TOUGH. I ended up using a box cutter, and it took some serious elbow grease. Warning: be careful if you ever try this, it’s easy to slip!

Next, I took those pine scraps and started shaping them. My goal was to make a kind of… I don’t even know… a stand? A frame? Something to hold the volleyball halves. I’m no carpenter, so I just eyeballed it and started sawing and sanding. I used a lot of wood glue, and I’m pretty sure I got more on myself than on the wood.

Putting It All Together

Once the pine pieces were (sort of) shaped and glued, I tried to fit them inside the volleyball halves. This was… interesting. It definitely wasn’t a perfect fit. I had to trim some bits, add some extra glue, and generally just fiddled with it until it seemed somewhat stable.

Finally, I took the whole contraption and placed it on one of the wooden flooring planks. I guess I was going for some kind of weird, rustic display thing? I screwed the pine frame into the flooring plank, just to make sure it wouldn’t topple over.

The End Result (Sort Of)

Honestly? It looked pretty weird. Like something a kid would make in art class. But hey, I did it! I took a rubber volleyball, some pine scraps, and a wooden flooring plank, and I made… something. I’m still not entirely sure what it is, but it’s definitely unique. Maybe I’ll use it as a… plant stand? A really strange bookend? The possibilities are endless (and probably all equally bizarre).

So, yeah, that was my little adventure. Total success? Maybe not. Fun experiment? Absolutely!
