Okay, so I’ve been wanting to redo the flooring in my living room for, like, forever. I finally decided to bite the bullet and go for it. I chose this “keel dancing beech wooden flooring” because it looked really cool and sturdy in the pictures.
Getting Started
First things first, I cleared out the entire living room. That meant moving all the furniture, the rug, everything. It was a workout, I’m not gonna lie!
Next, I had to deal with the old flooring. Thankfully, it was just some old laminate, so it was pretty easy to rip up. I just used a pry bar and some elbow grease. Underneath, there was this concrete subfloor.
Prepping the Subfloor
This part was crucial. I checked the concrete to make sure it was level. A few spots were a little off, so I used some self-leveling compound to smooth things out. It was kinda like pouring pancake batter, but way less tasty. I let that dry completely overnight.
Laying the Flooring
Now for the fun part! I started by laying down a moisture barrier. This is super important, especially with a concrete subfloor. It helps protect the wood from any moisture that might seep up.
Then, I began laying the actual beech wood planks. The “keel dancing” part refers to the locking system, It means the edges of the planks is easy connected. They basically clicked together, which was pretty satisfying.
- I made sure to stagger the seams, so it looked more natural.
- I use tools to cut some planks that fit in my living room.
- Some planks are damaged, so I picked them out.
I worked my way across the room, row by row. It took a while, but it was actually pretty therapeutic. Like a giant jigsaw puzzle!
Finishing Touches
Once all the flooring was down, I installed baseboards around the edges of the room. This covered up the expansion gap and gave it a nice, finished look.
Finally, I cleaned up all the dust and debris, moved the furniture back in, and…boom! New floor! It looks amazing, and I’m so proud that I did it myself. My back might be killing me, but it was totally worth it.
