Okay, here’s my blog post about installing that batten basketball parquet portable wooden flooring:
Alright, so I finally got around to putting in that portable wooden basketball court. You know, the kind with the battens underneath? I’d been putting it off, but my kid’s been bugging me to practice more, and the old concrete slab in the backyard just wasn’t cutting it.

Getting Started
First things first, I cleared out the area where I wanted the court. This was probably the worst part, honestly. We had some old patio furniture and a bunch of weeds that had taken over. Took a good few hours of hauling and hacking to get it all cleared.
Laying Down the Battens
Next up, I laid down the battens. These are the wooden strips that go underneath the actual floor panels, to give it some bounce and support. I spaced them out evenly, following the instructions that came with the flooring (thank goodness for those!). It was pretty straightforward, just a lot of kneeling and measuring.
Assembling the Floor Panels
Then came the fun part – putting together the actual floor panels. These things clicked together pretty easily. I’d just line them up, give them a good stomp, and they’d snap into place. It was kinda like putting together a giant jigsaw puzzle, but way more satisfying.
- Started in one corner and worked my way out.
- Made sure to stagger the seams, like you would with any kind of flooring.
- Kept checking that everything was level as I went.
The Finishing Touches
Once all the panels were down, I added the edging pieces. These give it a nice, finished look and help keep the panels from shifting around. The whole process took about a day’s work, with a few breaks in between. My back was definitely feeling it by the end, but it was totally worth it.
Now, my kid has a proper place to practice, and I don’t have to worry about him twisting an ankle on the uneven concrete. Plus, it looks pretty darn good, if I do say so myself! It really leveled up the backyard.
